Job Description
Position Title: Technical Writer / Benefit Plan Writer
Responsibilities:
We have an exciting opportunity to join our team as a Benefit Plan Writer. This role will provide technical writing for Rael & Letson's multiemployer health & welfare plan clients; primarily focusing on writing, editing, maintaining and modifying Summary Plan Descriptions (SPD) and other benefit plan documents. The Benefit Plan Writer position is part of Rael & Letson's Communications Division. This position may be performed remotely or in our Seattle, WA office.
- Creating technical documents such as Summary Plan Descriptions (SPD) for Health & Welfare plans and editing and proofing SPDs for Retirement plans
- Examining and assessing text modifications requested by both clients and internal project teams to support legislative or administrative changes
- Executing text amendments while ensuring uniformity across all affected document sections
- Engaging in content management efforts to pinpoint all document sections needing revisions
- Working from templates or existing documents to adjust benefit design and information construction
- Researching Plan Document questions as needed using internal and external sources
- Assessing the scope of work needed for requested changes
- Thoroughly proofreading documents for spelling, grammar, clarity, adherence to Plain Language principles, and compliance with the style guide
- Other business and marketing writing and editing as assigned, including newsletter articles, website content, case studies, flyers, presentations, etc.
- Other duties as assigned.
Necessary Skills and Attributes:
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills
- Demonstrated organizational, research and technical skills
- Great attention to detail, excellent time management skills and the ability to meet deadlines and maintain multiple projects simultaneously
- A collaborative team member with a customer service focus
- Proficiency with Microsoft Office, Word, Excel, PowerPoint and Teams
- Must meet physical demands of the role (using a computer including significant reading, typing, video and audio calls, etc.), with or without reasonable accommodation
Preferred Education and Experience:
- A bachelor's degree or equivalent experience, ideally in business, healthcare administration or related field Two+ year's experience in related environments such as the following preferred: healthcare payor, third-party administrator (TPA), self-administered fund, healthcare consulting and actuarial firm
Experience writing and/or updating Summary Plan Descriptions or related technical writing on healthcare and/or retirement topics
Experience with Taft-Hartley Trusts and knowledge of collective bargaining agreements (CBA's) preferred
General understanding of compliance and regulatory issues (ERISA, HIPAA, ACA, COBRA) preferred
Compensation and Benefits:
The compensation range for this position is $29.00 to $41.00 per hour plus eligibility for our annual bonus program. Compensation will be commensurate with experience.
